A large teardrop pendant rests at the chest, its surface covered edge to edge in heavy granulation — dense clustered beads fused into the surface like boiling metal frozen — holding a big oval turquoise cabochon in an irregular bezel. Thalassa takes its name from the Greek word for the sea, and the goddess who embodied it: a fitting name for a stone the color of open water, set in a technique as old as the Aegean's own goldsmiths.
